Teachers and support staff at UCL Academy took part in strike action as a last resort - to stand up for a better school environment for children and all staff.
Concerns were:
inconsistent and unsafe behaviour systems
pressures on staff planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) time
increasing workload and class size proposals
threats to job security
staff well-being and absence policies
leadership and communication issues
insufficient action against discrimination
After 4 days of strike action, NEU members at UCL Academy won:
Β 19% timetabled, protected PPA Time for all teachers
π― PPA time for LSA support staff
π― Rarely cover applied to all non SLT teaching staff
π― A new Teaching & Learning policy that withdraws heightened observations
π― An Independent external investigation into management practices with providers and terms of reference to be agreed with NEU
π― A review of the curriculum to meaningfully integrate anti-racism, LGBTQ+ equality, disability equality and anti-misogyny
π― Overseas-trained teachers to be paid on par with UK trained teachers of same experience
π― And much more on behaviour support, health & safety, sickness and absence practice, redundancies, discrimination, and management practices
Congratulations to everyone involved!
Join us at our first GM of the new academic year (Tuesday 23rd September, 5-6.30pm) to hear more on this action from Danny and Sarah (The UCL Academy Reps).
